"Cool" Words

Well, have you ever wondered about certain "cool" words you hear from time to time? Sometimes, you hear them in mainstream media. Other times, you hear them in certain "cool" songs. Well, here are a couple of "cool" words with the correct spelling and definition as provided by Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary. And, it turns out these are real words which have been in existence for awhile. Bon appetit!

  • bodacious: remarkable, noteworthy
    Ex: Yo, man, that was some bodacious grub.

  • copacetic: very satisfactory
    Ex: Hey, is everything copacetic?

  • poseur: a person who pretends to be what he or she is not: an affected or insincere person
    Ex: Man, that dude is such a poseur.

Irish "Cool" Words

These aren't in your dictionary, but if you ever decide to travel to Ireland, then these words are indispensable.

  • crack: a good time, I mean, a really good time
    Ex: That was great crack last night

    • Improper Uses
      Strangely enough, this is a country-sensitive word.
      Ex: That was great crack last night.
      (This usually involves something illegal and should never be spoken with cops in close proximity in the U.S.)

      Ex: Yo, man, I can see his crack.
      (As occurs whenever a plumber comes to fix your plumbing problems.)

      Ex: Yo, man, crack is illegal.
      (As one might say in a D.A.R.E. commercial.)
